You Know What You Should Be Doing - So Why Are You Still on the Sidelines?

The Sunday before Easter, the crowd cheered Jesus loudly. They threw garments in the road, waved palm branches, and called Him the son of David. A few days later, the same crowd called for His crucifixion. The donkey He rode said nothing. It simply carried Him. That contrast is this message.

The Crowd vs The Donkey

Matthew 21:9 - "And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord." This was real excitement. They meant it. They gave Jesus a royal entrance. But their excitement had no root in commitment - and when the pressure came, they changed their tune completely.

The donkey, by contrast, is described in Luke 19:30 as one "whereon yet never man sat." No training. No experience. No status. A donkey does not have the reputation of a horse. A king on a donkey in battle would be vulnerable. Yet Jesus asked for that specific donkey - and it carried Him into Jerusalem without complaint, without fanfare, without stopping.

Why God Uses a Donkey Instead of a Horse

Zechariah 9:9, written hundreds of years before the event, already prophesied: "Behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass." The donkey had a prophetic word on its life before it knew what to do with it. You may feel untrained, unqualified, stuck in the same place - but there is a prophetic purpose on your life that is not dependent on your resume.

God uses the donkey specifically because when a donkey carries Jesus, no one gives the credit to the donkey. The honour goes where it belongs. A horse would attract attention to itself. The donkey moves the mission without claiming the glory.

The Problem With Living in the Crowd

The crowd reacted to what happened. The donkey responded to what was asked. That difference is everything. Reaction is driven by feelings - when the feeling is high, you cheer; when the feeling drops, you disappear. Response is driven by commitment - whether the feeling is present or not, the work gets done.

Many believers have prophetic words, conference moments, altar moments, excitement in worship - but when Jesus asks them to do something specific, it stops there. James 1:22 puts it plainly: "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." The deception is subtle: the emotional response feels like faith. But faith without movement is not faith.

The crowd disappears when things get hard. The donkey carries the weight regardless. Which one describes your relationship with God right now?

This Is a Year of Carrying, Not Clapping

The declaration for this season is not "I feel led" - because when the feeling stops, the leading stops. It is not "I am praying about it" - because when the fight comes from both sides, the praying also stops. The call is to move. To carry. To avail yourself to what God is asking, whether you feel qualified or not.

The donkey's mission made history. Today we still talk about that donkey - not because of who the donkey was, but because of the one it carried. That is what commitment to God's assignment looks like.

"The crowd had a moment. The donkey had a mission. The crowd's moment is forgotten. The donkey's mission is still being preached."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between loving God and being committed to God?

The crowd in Matthew 21 loved the idea of Jesus - they cheered, laid garments, and called Him the son of David. Yet the same crowd later cried "Crucify Him." The donkey, untrained and never ridden, simply carried Jesus when called. Loving God emotionally is not the same as carrying the weight of what He has asked you to do.

What if I feel unqualified to be used by God?

Luke 19:30 says the donkey had never been ridden before - no training, no experience, no qualifications. Yet Jesus specifically asked for that donkey. God does not choose based on your qualifications. He chooses based on your availability. The donkey's mission made history - not because of who the donkey was, but because of who it carried.

about the Sunday before the Easter Sunday that people were clapping for Jesus. They even shouted for Jesus, not shout in an angry way, but they cheered Him in fact. But there's a difference between the shout that I'm shouting at you because I'm scolding you and then there's a difference in cheering. So they cheered Jesus. That's the shout. They agreed with everything of Him that same time. So people surrounded Jesus. They even had what we call a kingdom mindset towards Him that they put on some palm trees and garments in front of Him so that He can go. And when He passes, that is how nice it was. But yet nothing has changed in their lives. This is you today. You know like people love the church moments, the cheering on, the putting Jesus, putting Jesus on a bad side. They literally like the breakthroughs. They are like wow and and and and some of them even use this prophesy man of God because they love that prophetic words. But the moment when the prophet says okay this is the prophetic word, the thing that you need to do with this prophetic word is the obedience of what to do, then it stops. Why does nothing change in your life? Why is it that even after the cheering, even after putting Jesus on the pedestal, even after saying Jesus the King of Kings, Hosanna to the King of Kings, yet your life stays the same. What is it? What is it? Why do you hear what has been said but you don't move with what has been said to you? My message is entitled today. You love God but yet you're not in the game. You love God but you're not in the game. That is my message is titled And I want us to read Matthew 21 and verse 9. Now Matthew 21 verse 9 says the following. He says and the multitudes that went before and that followed cried saying Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest. And for those of you that don't know this story, this is a story playing off where Jesus asked them that there is what we call a gold or a donkey that has been fastened into a place that they must go and fetch him. He want to make use of it. And as he was riding on this donkey coming into Jerusalem, people were cheering him on and they were so glad to see him because they expected a lot of things to happen with him coming in. And this is the things that I want to talk about today. Now with so many things happening, one of the things that we cannot go without is the electricity. So when the electricity comes on normally we cheer it on as if it's our long last friend. You know that feeling. Yes electricity is on but when it's down, it almost is like as if you that is in churches you will understand when the keyboard player is not there. You are like you are boring. So it's going to be boring if the keyboard player is not there. Our electricity is off today so it's a bit boring because of the electricity being off but here we are here. So as I was saying to you verse 9 he says blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord Hosanna in the highest. This was a cheering on of Jesus but what comes before that is that when you're looking at let's read Luke. Let me rather take this out of the way. So when you read Luke and you read Luke 19 the verse 30. Let me read from 28 and when he thus spoken he went before ascending up to Jerusalem and it come to pass when he passed come night to Bethany and Beth Pachi and Bethany at the Mount called the Mount of Olives. He went he sent two of his disciples saying go here into the village over against you in which at your entering you shall find a cold tide whereon yet never man set. Lose him and bring him hither. Now when you're looking at that donkey the significance of this donkey have so much significance to it. Number one he says had need he says yet never men set. Whereon yet never man set which means that no man has set on that donkey before. Now what this represent it's a reserved donkey for specific moment and time. That's number one because when you're looking at your life you have a purpose but you never know your purpose and no one can say this is my purpose because you didn't know. Being tied up makes you to not know your purpose. This is a donkey that was untamed donkey. Now what does untamed mean is that in a sense of a donkey when you need to ride on a donkey you first have to tame the donkey not to be a stubborn as a donkey. Do you know how stubborn donkeys can be? When you say to him move he won't move. You can do whatever you want they are very stubborn they won't move. Now picture Jesus asking them to go and fetch an untamed donkey to ride on it. Yet you are the same you have been standing untamed in your ways but never you have learned anything. It's very important to understand that if you are untamed you still have to obey because when God is in need of you even though you know you don't know much you have not learned a lot of things you don't know how to to run a let's call it a leadership course. You have not done anything in leadership you have not done a business but when God is in need of you even if you are untamed it's very important to understand that you need to be obedient still. But yet this is still something I can tell to you although this donkey was never used although this donkey was untamed there was a prophetic word on the donkey so there's a prophetic word on your life and this prophetic word comes out of Zechariah which is Zechariah 9 verse 9 if you go to Zechariah 9 verse 9 it reads as follow rejoice greatly oh daughter Zechariah 9 verse 9 rejoice greatly oh daughter of Zion shout oh daughter of Jerusalem behold thy King cometh unto thee he is just and having salvation lowly and riding upon an ass and upon a colt the fowl of an ass can you see so this is a prophetic word that was spoken about this specific donkey there's a prophetic word upon your life yet you have been you were tied so you were tied you were never used and you have not known anything that God wants to use you now my question to you is if there is a prophetic word on your life why would it be that you don't take the prophetic upon yourself and try and do something about it now remember a a donkey gets seen as a workhorse and not get seen as a war war war it doesn't do war Kings normally does not ride on donkeys imagine a king riding on a donkey and somebody from the opposite section come and kill the the king because the donkey couldn't get away quicker but in this Jesus rode on a donkey as a king of the Jews but yet nobody saw it at that moment a donkey is very slow take you to a moment let's let's call it in the war let me take you to a war war moment when you want to run away from your enemies you your man has been defeated as a king you will never use a donkey because a donkey is too slow to run away you'll get killed you're definitely going to get killed and here Jesus is riding on a donkey that I can tell you a donkey doesn't have a status like a horse now why would Jesus then use a donkey instead of a horse why would Jesus then use you instead of somebody who has kingship in his blood why would Jesus then use it's because of the reason being is that whenever you get used by God as a donkey all the honor goes away from the donkey to Jesus himself so that is how you should be living your life that is why Jesus used donkeys instead of horses are you a donkey or are you a horse because a horse gets seen as something that can stand boldly and strong not as stubborn as a mule now this is why my message comes in you love God with everything that I've said to you now you love God you so dearly love God but yet you're not in the game yet you're not in the game that's something I can guarantee you now when somebody is trained they will be able to do a better job but let me explain to you you're looking at the job that you are doing maybe now let's say the job you are doing at this moment let's talk about the job that you are doing this moment do you know that the job you might be doing you might not be qualified to do it you know why I'm saying that sometimes when we get into a place of grace God doesn't even ask us but he just let us be so without training you will still be used that is now the donkey that is now the donkey just trying to check you can kick for me as I don't because with the electricity today it's not nice there we go yeah now I can at least see what's happening now I want to take yours I want to take you from the donkey that I've just explained to you now I want it now to take you to the crowd now when you're looking at the crowd it has some sort of significance and what I mean by the significance of the crowd is that number one they represent excitement they represent excitement I mean they take the palm trees they take their garments they throw it in front of Jesus they take this like they're giving Jesus a royal treatment they even declare him as king there comes a time when you as a person will say to Jesus Wow you are doing well Wow you've done it for me Oh Lord you are the greatest you are the best in the excitement something happened you cheer him on you are like pure Jesus but can I tell you something about the crowd the problem with the crowd is is that they love hype they like the hype of Jesus they are so hyped up that they even call him the son of David now there's a difference between the donkey and the crowd and I want to bring your attention to these differences I want to bring your attention to the differences when you when you let Jesus sit on you its commitment it shows commitment unlike somebody standing next to the bench and cheering on you can ask Lytton that thing the person that is in the game it's not the same then you who is in the game the the drive of the game it's like wow you get so much critique when you are on the bench well I mean when you're in the game from the people from the bench am I am I saying telling nonsense here Lytton do you know how many people say you could have done this that and the other and you would have won the game just because they're not in the game they can critique you I don't even want to talk to you Levan because you remember you remember we were standing there by your mother's day hockey game we were standing outside and I saw if you could have done that that that but when I looked at at the way you run I could say that is tiring because you've been all over in that field the whole day for for me to stand outside not knowing how tired you are because of others that did not enter in the game of winning they entered just to be there as long as I can just be in the game now they tiring you who are using your utmost best to win the game when the defenders is there you pass the defenders when it's time for you to defend you make sure that you defend when you're in the game it's different than when you are expectator Jesus was at a time standing on the donkey or riding on the donkey and people from outside was like yo ah this donkey is having Christ on his back and what they wanted when Jesus entered was not the same than what we thought they wanted let me explain to you what I mean by that they wanted a savior they didn't want it a lot what I mean by a savior is that they wanted to be saved politically from the Roman but Jesus came as Lord at the same time they wanted changed but they didn't want to surrender so the change can happen this crowd wanted results not obedience they wanted results they wanted Jesus to change things immediately yet a few days or Xena turns into crucified him now when I'm asking you the question for somebody who is committed to you do you think they will change their story when hard times comes when somebody is committed to you even in hard times they will stick to you I remember my wife there was a a very first time that I had the biggest issue in my entire life that happened is when I lost my boys my mom and stepdad at that time my wife shown commitment she didn't show up as a spectator she showed up as a commit you can see a committed follower I'm not saying she's following me but what I'm trying to say is that she was already committed she didn't drop me at that time and say but this is too hard for me to take let me rather leave you she committed to it a few days later or Xena turned into crucify him how many times have you put your hands in the game yet to change your tune yet to change your tune can I tell you something the donkey was never been ridden before so nobody wrote on the donkey they didn't write the donkey nor does the donkey have any training nor does the donkey have any experience nor does the donkey have any qualifications yet he carried Jesus know why he carried Jesus because he availed himself now when you avail yourself God doesn't look at your qualifications he doesn't look at your your previous experience he doesn't look at your your you can almost say your looks now there's a difference between the donkey and the crowd the crowd expresses a lot of talk they had but yet no commitment but the dark donkey carried Jesus he was in it to win it now with the year of action that we are currently in we cannot respond to excitement you can't get excited all the time you can't even get emotional because I can guarantee you now excitement do wear off emotion wear off we can't stand in agreement because agreements get changed as well we only need to respond this year to movement to obedience to action if there's no movement there's no obedience there's no action we might as well just leave everything because according to James 1 22 he says you have to move you just have to move when it when it comes to the crowd the crowd reacts like what happened they reacted to what happened but the donkey responded he didn't react it he responded so do you only want to move when you feel something or would you want to rather move in spite of not feeling anything the crowd shout but the donkey carried the weight how the crowd was shouting hosanna hosanna yet the donkey carried Jesus I want to ask you the question what are you caring for God what are you caring for God something I can tell you now crowds disappear because the moment some problem happened if the Romans would have just used a few spears the crowd would have disappeared but yet the donkey carrying the weight of Jesus couldn't disappear without disappearing with God imagine staying under Jesus regardless of whatever happens in your life you will carry Jesus when things get hard do you disappear when tough decisions has to be made will you disappear I want you to take this moment and use this moment to do a few things number one thinking what can you carry the things that you can carry is to start serving today what is it that you would like to serve is to start leading your family what I or how you're going to lead your family is to start the assignment that God has told you to do and one of the things that we can tend to forget is to start following up with people when somebody was making a commitment go back to them and follow up to come with wording that says the like the crowd was saying Hosanna that was just a quicker respond to a quick excitement because Hosanna turns into crucified rather use the word hallelujah who will be said forever don't say I feel led because when the feeling stops there's no leading don't say I'm praying about it because when when when when there's a fight coming from both sides the praying also stops praying also stops I want to declare a prophetic word to you this is the year that is not for clapping this is the year for caring I want to declare that this is the year not to clip for Jesus but this is the year to carry for Jesus because by carrying you cannot stop by clapping you can stop this is not a year of you can almost say of watching don't watch as Jesus passed on or Jesus passed by don't watch as Jesus passed by start to move this is our year of movement this is our year of action the crowd had a moment yes the crowd had their moment but do you know one thing that the donkey head the donkey had a mission the donkey had a mission and do you know that the donkey the donkey's mission made history the donkey's mission made history even today we are talking about that donkey because it was history in the making so my question to you is which one will be will you be will you be the donkey that carried Jesus the donkey that that that literally said do or die I will stick the donkey that says do or die I will stick I mean how many times have you get to a place where the donkey not knowing who the donkey is not knowing what the donkey is not knowing what he stood for and felt like and somebody who doesn't know much but yet Jesus said to him he's been tied up bring him I want to make use of him so many of us are tied in our situations yet the master is saying come here I want to use you some of us has never been doing anything in our lives we don't have any experience but yet God is saying I want to use you I've made the example before where I've said many people have never had experience of the job situations that they are in but yet they've been used and through this the donkey have not had any status a donkey gets seen as a stubborn yeah let's call him a mule stubborn mule and how many times have have you seen that whenever they make use of a donkey they use this thing called blindfolds you know why the donkey has this because what a donkey does is the moment the don't focus on what is supposed to do here in front he will get distracted that is why they put that blindfold over him so that the moment you can see because let's say for argument's sake the donkey walks and there's a carrot on the side the donkey won't care where you're going he will go to the carrot and start eating the carrot and that is a donkey for you but with all this God still says I'm going to use you I mean when you're looking at the order of things kings normally use horses and not donkeys because when there is war a king needs to be going fast or be moving fast but yet a donkey get used so with all those things taken in consideration where do you find yourself what is it that you are not in experiencing don't be the crowd be the donkey because the crowd only get excited for that moment when they see Jesus but when Jesus asked them to do something they not they don't do it so it's better to be committed in your ways and commit to what God is asking you to do because the moment you do that you will go far you will go far in life you will go far in life I want to ask the question and I leave you with this question are you going to make a noise like the crowd did or are you going to carry the mission that God has given you what are you going to do like not keep it won't you heavenly father I want to take this moment and say to you thank you for using a donkey instead of using the crowd something so insignificant but yet so significant God I want to say thank you that you have opened up our eyes to the world today to make use of being a donkey instead of being in the crowd because the same hosanna that we screamed was the same words that was changed to crucify we don't want to crucify you we want to stand in your mission the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior amen and amen now I want to take this moment and just say also you have heard the word if it is that at some point you feel this word was specifically meant for me I have been that donkey that has been tied up in my situations I have been that donkey that didn't know what to do I am that donkey that don't have any experience in anything I want to take this moment and ask you if you want to be used by God you can lift up your hand your right hand and I want to say by the use of God I don't mean that God will be using you for be a rubbish or a trash I'm asking you to be used what God has purposed you to be used for so many hands goes up and I thank God for that and I want to pray for those who lift up their hands I saw your hands I didn't ask you to tell them lift up your hands I asked them to lift their hands I lift up my hand as well and as I say the right hand the reason I'm lifting up my hands is a sign of surrendering to say God use me God use me I want to be used in your kingdom and as I'm praying for all of you while your hands are lifted so as I'm praying for your hands lifted heavenly father I sanctify this hands that has been lifted for your glory I pray now in the mighty name of Jesus as the hands that has been lifted their hearts been showing that they want to be used by you I pray now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior that you will be using them mightily for your glory nothing about me nothing about us nothing about the church but for your glory my God therefore I pray now in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior that every time whenever they wake up for the God they will look at things that they can do for you where you can use them in the mighty name of Jesus whether they get used by you through the word whether they get used by you to any action they have but anybody let them be used by Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and I pray now Lord Jesus every heart that has been receptive to you as the Bible says that a pure heart will see you I pray now for their hearts to be open to see you so that they can see you in every situation that they will be useful in the mighty name of Jesus you may drop your hands I also want to take this moment and say to you thank you for that commitment because those that commitment it always have been by the grace of God I'm going to take after the service I'll anoint each and everyone that has lifted up their hands if there's anybody that have a thousand offering you can bring it but before you bring it I just want to take the moment and say the tithe will never be used for the gain of the of the church it will always used for what it supposed to be used for it will be used to feed families it will be used to train disciples it will be used for all the things that God has said we must do the widows and the orphans that is what we will be using it for in the In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we then can switch off the phone, end stream.
