How do I get through the day when grief hits out of nowhere?
Pretoria North · 20 September 2026

You are fine, and then a song comes on. Or you see their handwriting on an old note. Or it is just a Tuesday in September and something in the air smells like them. Grief does not keep office hours. It arrives without warning and it can floor you. That is not weakness. That is love with nowhere to go. And into exactly that moment, God says something worth holding onto.
"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
- Lamentations 3:22-23 (KJV)
Tonight, before you sleep, write down one mercy from today. One small thing. Maybe just that you got through it. Name it. Write it on paper or type it in your phone. Grief shrinks the world. One named mercy pushes the walls back a little.
Lord, today was hard and I did not see it coming. Thank you that your mercies were still here even when I could not feel them. Help me wake tomorrow and find them again. Amen.
